This week we continue on our discussion on Success Secrets. The number two secrets of the successful people is COURAGE.

Dictionary.com defines Courage as “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear.” It is the ability to do something that frightens one. Some words that are synonymous with courage are: bravery, valour, audacity, fearlessness, boldness, grit, daring etc.
Success belongs to the brave because success doesn’t come easy. You have to go all out for it.

Courage is a desirable quality that distinguishes successful people in any field of endeavor. Without courage, success is unattainable. This is simply because there are numerous obstacles that one will face and confront on the path to attaining success in any venture.

Courage is what gives you the ‘staying power’ in the face of opposition. The person that will eventually come out as a success will not throw in the towel where others have given up because he possesses this desirable quality called courage. Courage is a virtue that everyone that desires to be successful in life must embrace, for without a lion-heart , you can’t take the lion-share. For instance, starting a business from the scratch is no joke. You need to be audacious to make some moves and take some daunting steps. Ask any successful and fulfilled entrepreneur and he will tell you of some daunting steps he had to take to get his business to the level it is today.

The best way to drive home this discourse is the story of an entrepreneur in Nigeria, Africa. This woman started a business with less than $5 and has built the business venture within a space of 10 years to over $100,000 in turnover.  Mrs Ayodeji Megbope, CEO, No Left Overs Nigeria Limited, is an example of an entrepreneur, who with courage and bravery built a seemingly odd business (selling moi-moi (bean cake)  to people) to a world-class business institution. People out of pity tried to talk her out of doing the business when she started out, but in her own words, “I sold still.” What a statement! That is a courageous statement from an audacious woman. Today, she’s not only successful and fulfilled, much more she’s providing solution to hunger problem in our world and putting smiles on so many faces.

You’re born to win, therefore you must be courageous to lay hold on that prize. Dare that task, be audacious, and be fearless, even in the face of adversity. For you to achieve anything worthwhile in this life, you’ve got to be daring. Remember, the lion-share is yours for taking, but you must possess a lion-heart (courage) to lay hold on it.
